Sir Michael Moritz

Partner, Sequoia Capital

Sir Michael Moritz

Michael Moritz joined Sequoia Capital in 1986 and has represented Sequoia on the boards of Yahoo!, PayPal, Google, LinkedIn, Kayak, and Flextronics; and younger businesses such as Berkeley Lights, Instacart, Klarna, and Stripe.

Prior to joining Sequoia, Moritz was a correspondent for Time, where he was the San Francisco bureau chief.

A signatory of The Giving Pledge, Moritz has donated significant sums to organisations such as Christ Church, his Oxford college, Juilliard School, the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Chicago, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Booker Prize and the International Booker Prize are currently funded by Crankstart, the charitable foundation launched in 2000 by Moritz and his wife, Harriet Heyman, which works to address social issues and their underlying causes. The foundation’s principal interests are education; a thriving democracy; just communities; the environment; and the basic sciences. It aims to support leaders and organisations with the know-how and tenacity to take on tough problems that have no quick or easy answers.
