‘Fisayo Soyombo

A former managing editor of the Sahara Reporters news website and the pioneer editor of TheCable, Nigerian journalist ‘Fisayo Soyombo has also edited at the International Centre for Investigative Reporting. He is the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism. Soyombo has investigated topics including corruption in Nigeria’s criminal justice system and the country’s customs service, the abandonment of soldiers injured in battle against Boko Haram, and the plunder of Ebola funds in Liberia. 

His reporting has won multiple accolades. He is a three-time winner of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting; in 2020, he was joint winner of Gatefield’s inaugural People Journalism Prize for Africa; and in both 2020 and 2021 he was shortlisted for One World Media’s International Journalist of the Year award. Also in 2020, he won the West Africa Media Excellence Award (investigative reporting category), and the local reporter category of the Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism. Soyombo is a Fellow of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, University of Oxford, where he is studying misinformation, with specific reference to the discrediting of journalists in Nigeria.
