Robert Trafford is an assistant director with Forensic Architecture (FA), an investigative research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London, covering open-source investigation, editing, and coordinating investigations and exhibitions. He also supports FA’s researchers to develop and lead their own investigations, and to deploy the results of that research impactfully across the media, as well as in legal, political, and cultural forums.
Trafford’s work with FA has covered US police violence, the extrajudicial killing of civilians by Cameroon’s special forces, and the 2011 killing of Mark Duggan by UK police. The agency’s acclaimed Triple-Chaser investigation into Warren B. Kanders, CEO of munitions manufacturer Safariland, and the use of tear gas against civilians, premiered at the 2019 Whitney Biennial in New York. Trafford also jointly led an investigation into the 2020 neo-Nazi terror attack in Hanau, Germany, with the agency’s Berlin-based sister agency, Forensis.
Before joining FA in 2017, Trafford was freelance, writing for The Times, The Telegraph, and The Intercept among others. He is a graduate of the University of Oxford and City, University of London.
